Sure it would! It would just be a different design than the type I use. One of my students had a Schertzer (sp?) tuba that had a horizontal main slide and he had a tuning device on his tuba. The difference was that it worked like a lever instead of a plunger. His opinion of it was that the vertical slide type was easier to operate but that his did the job. Obviously, gravity is more of an enemy than an ally in the horizontal setup so you could count on having to be more careful about keeping the slide well greased. But the setup does work. The hardest part of installing this type of device is finding the right place on your tuba to install the pivot point so that it has ample clearance for the lever to move fully and still be an efficient lever. Check with a good repairman, he'll be able to set you up!
