I was mostly trying to compare my own observations with your trumpeter friend, and you actually confirmed my views already when you said you mostly practice in the church or hall. If the trumpeter in question ("questionable trumpeter"? just kidding...) is willing to part with the cash, a Silent Brass might be a boon to his practice results.
