I have the 822 CC and think it is a very good instrument. I've recieved nothing but compliments about the way this horn sounds. I really like the blend I acheive in any group. I do have the usual gripes, sticky valves and funky response. Both however can be cleared up with a little work, ie. valve lapping and the new Dillon adjustable gap reciever. Kelly has the AGR on his tubas. As to them having "no soul", this may be true. Every player that has this horn that I've heard does sound the same. Maybe that's a testament to Yamaha's consistency and quality control. IMO, I think the 822 F tuba is the best large F on the market.
