If my humble opinion means anything, i am one of those guys who plays a BBd in an orchestral setting and in quintets. I own a st. petes and have heard from numerous people who really like its "dark" sound. I was ragged on pretty badly one time by a young lady who plays for Pershings Own in DC for not getting a CC for work but have been told since then by several tubists who are alot better than me to stick with what I know. I was trained on the BBd and despite its limitations in the upper register, it has suited me just fine. Also in regards to the St. Petes ( and i know ill take some heat for this, so bring it on!) it is in my humble opinion one of the best horns out there right now if you are on a budget! the price was absolutely right, and i would put my big ole 3000$ BBd up there against any of those snotty high dollar horns!! Its all in how ya play it man!!
