You might try to expand your literature by seeking out a local prof. Try a transcription of a Mozart Horn Concerto. Also, look at arranging a jazz chart in your playing range. I am sure that your band director could help you.

I know that some think that those "boring old worn out tuba solos" are just the "bomb" but try to think about your playing audience. You do not want to give them a tour of the 1950's in solo literature. Also, I know that there are those that would say that those old pieces need to be studied to get important musical concepts. But please, be real.Those same concepts could be achieved in a method book.

Try something new. Be creative. Play something that will set you apart from everyone else. There are enough Peter Popiels in the world. If you have heard the record, you understand.
