Shaving a Shank

I've just purchased a very special 188. I have a large shank PT88 that's just a bit too big for it's receiver. I sense that this mouthpiece might be a great match for the horn but the notes produced feel a bit loose and fluffy. Something tells me if it went further in the receiver (it currently has about 3/4 inch between end of receiver and end of shank) I think it would feel perfect for me. From what I understand though, the next smaller shank that PT offers will be too small. For all you PT lovers out there, does my information sound accurate? Anyone here have experience with shaving away at a shank? Process involved? Where to do it? Will I be able to shave enough off to allow the mouthpiece to insert a full 1/4 in. or more? I know that an AGR sounds like a logical choice but am not sure I want to go that far yet (just got done dropping the coin on the 188!).

Any help would be appreciated (especially from you 188/186 owners out there that may have some alternate suggestions).

Thanks greatly!

Dave
