What is interesting, is that in my copy of "Machinery Handbook" (earliest copyright 1915), only low brass with a 80% copper and 20% zinc, has musical instruments listed as an application. I'm restoring/converting to CC a H.N. White tuba with pre WW 1 bell and most branches. It's made of that low brass. I've also noticed a higher copper content in old Yorks and some Conns. That info and a dollar will buy me a coffee. Is there something to the mystique about brass in older horns? Or, did only the better ones get saved while the dogs got melted down in war time?
A side bar is that I have cartridge brass listed at 70% copper and 30% zinc. Todays yellow brass.
Matt
