I basically agree with you that the funnel shaped mouthpieces aren't the best for the 'German' style horns.
Curiously, however, the original King 1241 (the original numbering for the 2341) was shipped with an H.N. White 26 mouthpiece, a relatively large diameter cup shaped mouthpiece King used for all of the BBb tubas.
