Yes, the Japanese turned the corner when they stopped copying the British and started copying the Germans. For example--the Datsun 5000, which morphed into what is at best a hybrid 240Z (an Italian car concept with a British-"inspired" engine), which appeared alonside the incomparable and under-rated 510, a Mercedes inspiration through and through.
But that '76 Corolla don't look like no Bimmer I've ever seen, heh, heh.
