I have recently started using NoteWorthy Composer. It is a fully functional shareware (demo) version, except that it only permits saving the same file up to 10 times. Purchase price is relatively low, if you decide to keep using it at $39.
I have found it very fast and easy to write notation. It imports and exports midi formats and can record from a midi device. However, it is clearly notation (not sequencing) oriented.
