If memory serves, it's been discussed on the list before that sometimes the problem isn't the valve itself, but the nylon (delrin?) valve guide which can fray or become deformed. Take a look with a good magnifier and see if the guide tooth looks "fuzzy". If so, cleaning it up with a small file or replacing it may make a big difference.
