Somebody is selling on Ebay a copy of the 1964 Life Magazine story about Ron Snyder and his giant tuba. I remember reading it back then, and the next year I was in London at the Paxman Horn shop, where they had it posted on the wall. They had sold him the horn, and gave me his phone number. I called him and we had a nice chat. It's the same "subcontrabass tuba" that was used in Gerard Hoffnung's first interplanetary music festival LP. There was some discussion recently in the TUBA Journal about what had become of the instrument.
