If you're back pain is the result of a work-related injury, sue the pants off of your employer(assuming it's a corporate employer). My insurance dropped me because of an injury that was work related(well, there's a long story to that, but anyways)... after 3 months of struggling to pay for my own cyclobenzaprine prescription, other relaxants, and physical therapy($$$$$$$$$$$), a friendly lawyer (out of the goodness of his own heart, I'm sure) convinced me that my work should pay for it all, and also helped me assign a monetary value to my emotional distress.
Nice peoples, 'dem lawyers!
Seriously though, I've found that any minor back injury I have gets irritated when I'm playing. The only non-medical(read: inexpensive) solution I've found is swimming every night. Stretches my back out nicely, works and relaxes every muscle in my body, AND does wonders for breath support. Best of luck!
