When I was at Camp Lejeune in the 2nd Marine Division Band the Tuba section was tasked to learn and perform the piccolo solo in the tradition of the sousa Band. If you think it is hard to just play it your self think how long it takes to get four or six sousaphone players to get it down with trills and all in a unison fashion. When done well it is at the least very impressive and a typical Sousa-esque concert gimmick. Piccilo players really hate it when we steal their thunder.
