You really do need to narrow it down a little....is it a back ache, or shooting pains? Shooting pains indicate more of a problem than just stress. Especially if shooting down your leg....but if it's just an ache, all the above applies.
Disk problems only get worse if not attended to. There is a system called VAX (I don't remember what it stands for) that has extremely good success in fixing disk problems without surgery.
