CC tubas need extra valves because dey need to catch up with being able to go really low like is easier on a BBb. The fifth valve is for just that, holding the fifth of vodka martini you could store in the quart valve toobing of a BBBBBBBBb, This is mostly important for keeping the lip lubricated during long gigs.(also keeps germs from growing in tooba..
And as for the "spit" valve, well I prefer to use my little valves to get the martini out of da toobing, Maestros tend to get very jealous if they see you getting your martini out by tipping the whole horn around and poring it out of der bell.(also waste a lot dat vay.) Da moutpiece makes a good shot glass. Dis is reallly reason for Jake have adjustable cup mouthpiece . Sometime, for Fritz he would use schnappes and only have small shot so could save some to give to Fritz later. Imagine what they could get up to when Arnie use 7 valve Alexander. He then had a full 4 valve F tooba to play and even more fuller 3 valve CC tuba to drink mit his friends. Maybe something to do with getting a full sound out of little tube???
