I have some plastic tubing that came with my MW 182 F tuba. I can't tell the difference between the sound of the horn with or without it. Maybe there is a difference from the audience's perspective, but I can't hear one from behind the horn. It does make a big difference in protecting the bell rim from scratches, etc.
