I've got one of those King 0.750" BBb Monsters (model 1286, circa 1935) with 24" recording bell. The university here also has the fixed-upright bell version. I've seen one with a removable upright bell also. Big heavy things, all of them. Nice valves (the rotors on mine are gold-plated, but I don't know if that was the universal treatment).

Big open sound with really good intonation in spite of the weird 3rd valve wrap. Mine still has the paddles with the string linkage--very light and easy action. My only gripe is the high leadpipe, but that's easy enough to change.

I've owned a 2341, but there's no real comparison--the 1286 wins hands down.
