You are right about the need to press the 3rd as well as the 4th valve to get at popfree pull of the 3rd piston compensation slide. My left hand allows me to press both simultaneously while pulling the slide with my right hand.
But as this is less than practical, I use the following sequence to empty the 3rd comp slide:
a: Press the 4th valve while removing the 4th valve tuning slide, which then is put in a secure place.
b: Press the 3rd valve while the 3rd comp slide is pulled, emptied, and remounted.
c: Press the 4th valve while the 4th valve tuning slide is remounted.
Yes! It is quite a work-around, but it is pop-free.
