Public perception:
Garbage man? Hmm... dirty, messy, filthy, probably disease-laden work -- how much money does it take to hire someone to do that job?
Symphony musician? Gorgeous music, wonderful clothes (even if it's all black, everyone _looks_ rich...), great venue, high class activity, must be plenty of money to go around.
It's that perception vs. reality thing again.
