Again, from my experience tuba players seem to prefer bass tubas, trumpet players seem to prefer contrabass tubas, whereas trombone and french horn players don't seem to have too much of an opinion.
Me? Due to the technical requirements of the quintet music that I have to play, I'll select a bass tuba for its lack of serious intonation problems and increased ease of facility.
(I think that trumpet players like the CONTRAbass tubas because the contrabass timbre [generally] is SO different from the trumpet timbre that intonation issues are more well-cloaked.)
