Chuck also uses a small tuba with a carbon fiber bell. I think I read somewhere that he says it weighs less than 15 pounds. What Chuck does on stage is more like dancing than standing, so I guess he would really need a lightweight horn like that.
That reminds me. I knew a guy in another band while I was in high school who marched with one of the big recording bell King tubas. His director refused to let him use any kind of strap at all. I could just imagine the kind of pain he was in. One of the many shortfalls of having a band director who knows nothing about the tuba.
