I use a Blue Note strap too. You don't need any ring soldered onto your horn because you strap on the two anchor points. ( Yeah, it takes quite a while to find the right spots.) I saw one of the tuba player's in the tuba quartet that plays at Disneyland (TubaFours??) using one. I actually use mine for practicing sitting down. It takes the tension off my left arm and makes page turning easier too.
