Another consideration for any type of public performance...

The people evaluating you behind the screen/in the audience/grading your jury/ WANT you to do well. This is a concept that never dawns on performers as they play. So much energy is spent on "What if I mess up?" rather than playing the best that you can play.

The goal of the committee is to find the best player. They want you to do well. Really, they do. I find that adopting this mindset helps me to focus on the task at hand rather than obsessing on the fear of "failure".
