jotting down brands/models, and conditions (1-10, etc.) of instruments on ebay, along with their auction numbers (for easy checking once auctions have ended) and determining the "average selling price" in a given condition with a given type of finish with a given model?

I bet someone could make some money selling the "2001/2002/2003 auction guide" for "brass instruments", "woodwind instruments", "Lionel trains", etc., based on REAL selling prices

and this booklet based on a REAL survey of REAL purchases (including various conditions and features (lacquer/silver - case/no case, etc.) sure would be a more accurate indication of the value of things than these b.s. books that are available now.
