The 2704 always had a stupid flaw in that (easily fixed) its #2 valve slide was way too long. I fixed that on a couple of those for a school and they played fine. My guess is that Kurath was trying to build in some 2-4 combination "compensation" but all they did was ruin the instrument. Another flaw with the 2704 was a ricochet-wrap in the #4 valve slide tubing - also a bit too long and a bit stuffy.
