To add to this, I have never seen the orchestration, but wanted to make sure. The orchestration does have that solo Written in the tuba part right? Because I know for certain often times orchestras will use a euphonium for clarity sake. And to back this up the University of Kentucky Orchestra performed pictures at an exhibition and had freshman Ryan Moore play the solo in the Bydlo. But I think I did hear that it was originally written in the tuba part in Ravel's orchestration of it.
