The telecast performance by Jarvi and the Detroit Symphony has been making the rounds of PBS stations. Apparently the only surviving manuscript of Mahler's revision was in the DSO archives, due to the interest of the orchestra's founding music director. It was fun to watch. Wes Jacobs is one of players interviewed. Mahler gave the tuba some interesting figures to play in the first movement, as well as some expected reinforcement in the finale. In all, not a tuba part for the woodshed, but the Mahler Beethoven 9th will provide an interesting evening's viewing if it plays in your area, or makes it to home video.
