But I hardly think it fits the bill for an "intermediate, modernistic" work. I played it at solo contest in the 7th grade, which defines it as a beginner work, and it bears no resemblance at all to Ligeti or Lutoslawski.

To the original poster: You might try "Portrait of Jay Rozen" by Virgil Thompson, although I can't play it, so it may not be intermediate.
