I have known a number of people who went to both HS and conservatory with Bobo comment on his difficulties with learning. But while we now use dyslexia to mean the inability to read. 30 years ago the word had a much narrower meaning. It was the inability to translate abstract symbols to concrete objects. This has now changed to include reversals of letters and any number of other difficulties. In my teaching, I never found that dyslexia was an impediment to musical performance. I believe reading and musical performance are governed by the opposite sides of the brain. Further, sight is not a requirement to perform, is it, Mr. Shearing? If your student is willing to work, he'll (she?) be a fine player.

By the way, DAM (Mothers Against Dyslexia) is sponsoring a charity benefit of "Annie Teg your Nug" next Saturday. Be sure to get your tickets early.
