Chuck! Aware that I am chasing small game now:

"The F tuba is precisely the same length as the F horn" is a less than true statement.

Wider bell diameters lower the pitch of an instrument, so that an F tuba would need a shorter length of tubing, than would an F horn of equal pitch.

Somehow these huganormous bell withs have some shading effects in the axial direction of the bell. Making the overall length of tubing act as being longer, than actual measurements would indicate.
