Thorough and concise description. Squares with my own impression playing on Warren Deck's a few years ago. I wonder how many observers of this York copy phenominon have considered the possibility that the Nirschl York is modeled on Mr. Jacobs' heavily used and often buffed, and we're told, increasingly fragile tuba. Would that account for the lighter guage of metal? Whatever, it seems to work in favor of an easy blowing instrument. Your description reminds me of my own brief and treasured encounters with THE York, when I was a student.

I am a former Holton owner. I sold it after a few years. It just wasn't what I wanted. And I've tried various 6/4 artillery at Dillon's. Good well built horns, but too heavy duty industrial for me. I could be tempted with a Nirschl if the amount of work I do would justify the investment. Glad you're enjoying yours.
