The reality is, unfortunately, that for most people (public), the Hindemith is as far out in terms of musical accessability as they get. After that, especially for solo music, it just becomes noise. Like it or not, for the general public, Pagannini will always be more "listenable" than Kraft or Penderecki. That's why, IMO, that while tubists will perform pieces written for tuba on a recital, there will almost always be a horn concerto or cello sonata or both on the program somewhere. It's not that there isn't music in there, it's just that finding the music requires more of the listener as well as the player.
