Both of my kids have endured the school years with learning disabilities and have been successful. The ways they have each gotten through it have been different because every kid learns differently. You just have to keep plugging and find out how this one clicks best with the way he learns. But in every case the main ingredient is a lot of hard work. You have to be able to work on their level and praise them as they achieve. Your student has been told that "he cannot compete in a large market". This is horse hockey. Some of my daughter's teachers in high school advised us to find some sort of "vocational school" to send her to, so she could perform "within her limits". We and she did not accept that, and she just worked that much harder. She later graduated from a design school with a 3.5 average and is working for a management company for a large office building in Atlanta, and is making more money than I am.
