I hate it when band directors/conductors do this. You know the Nazis did similar stuff to the jews. No high school jazz ensemble is good enough that you should sacrifice your own playing habits and replace them with bad ones just so you "look the same". That is horse sh*t. Screw them, go find somewhere else to play.
