I'm going through the same thing with my new King 2341.
I do know that even good tuners have cheap built in microphones which decrease in accuracy at lower frequencies. I now use a microphone clip to locate a good mic almost in the bell, both in the pracice room, and once in a while at rehersal (just to see if I'm losing my mind). It's hard enough to get on top of intonation. A less than accurate reading from the meter can really make the hair fall out.
