I have elaborated on the importance of the diaphragm down the thread without relating too much to your original question.
My immediate reaction would be not to relate the postioning of the diaphragm to the bore. But you are not fully off track.
One of my personal gurus, Denis Wick, preaches a relation between diaphragm position and the pitch of the note played.
Where your experiences might collect their validity, could be in the fact, that the larger the bore of a tuba, the larger the needs for precise diaphragm positionings in the higher range.
