Without knowing most of the guys that auditioned ,I wound contend that; any one of the finalists and indeed the semi finalists could play that job as well or better than Chester. Don't take this the wrong way. Chester is and was a GREAT player. But the fact is that each generation of player will be better than its teachers. Playing in a orchestra is not all that difficult that they couldnt find a wonderfull player in the first go around. It didnt take the Met orchestra 3 trys and that's a infinatly harder job.
lets keep this all in perspective. They are looking for a tuba player not someone to save the world.
