If you want to do trombone or bass trombone, get a trombone teacher!
Years ago I tried to play bass trombone and thought I did a halfway job at it. I have just gotten back into bass trombone and am taking regular lessons with a trombone teacher at my school, along with sporadic coaching from a excellent bass bone playing friend of mine. You need to approach the instrument like a trombone, not a slide tuba; trust me it is very different. I now realize just how bad I was at it before, and how hard an instrument it really is to master. Fortunately, I am receiving sound guidance and am very slowly progressing in the right direction. In the meantime, Rochut down an octave is kicking my butt daily on the bass trombone.

P.S. I think the bass trombone is actually making me a better tubist.
