Rex Martin is said to have been using a 5/4 Rudy CC in his work with the CSO.

I believe Mr. Jacobs himself would have been an advocate of finding what horn was best for the player in a given situation, not the "6/4 York-a-like solves all" solution.

I in fact would be curious to find out how many players use a Hirsbrunner for all of there horns, or any brand across the board for that matter. I think that some of the reason for buying different horns also involves different manufacturers.

For instance, one might have a "York" style of 6/4 CC (Hirs., Nirschl, Holton Factory or Cut, MW2165, Gronitz PCK) However, a lot of orchestral guys really dig Alex F's, Rudy F's, B&S F's and the like. I think it is the appeal of stark contrast. It's like having a Ford F350 super diesel and a Honda S2000. Both can do the same basic things, but yet in a VERY different manner.

I think Hirsbrunner has a wide product offering, but their F's aren't as sought after as the big York-a-likes.
