This may not be the best way to solve the problem, but perhaps the simplest.
If the kiddies are playing them with something like 6-1/2AL (I'm speaking completely out of ignorance because I don't know what the "stock" mpc. is shipped with those and I don't know what mpcs. your kids might own.) you could purchase something very deep, like Schilke 51D, and issue those mpcs. to the kids who are playing the Schmidt's.
The 51D mpcs. will play flatter than medium-deep mpcs.
