All the theory about this stuff can be understood on the basis of the conclusions drawn by Pythagoras after he had played around with a monochord.
But understanding the theory does not make one ready to use these techniques in practical playing. It takes a well controlled embouchure, a good singing voice, a good training in vocal handling of vowels, and a good ear. And then more patience than most of us want to put into it, unless we concentrate on modern music. Which I don't.
Yet it is fun to play with, and the ideas of Pythagoras is behind anything we do on brasses anyway.
