For starters, I would ask you BD what planet he came from to think a Jupiter 378 looks ANYTHING like a Mirafone 187. One's a big rotary horn, the other is a small top action piston horn.

Fortunately, my BD was a tuba player, so he understood our situations, but I too have had to deal with the apathy of fellow students. The truth is there's nothing you can do in that regard. If your director decides to be stubborn, just go with the flow and pray everything sounds decent enough.

Because in the end, you've got a sweet horn, and the senior who couldn't care less will be gone next year. No sense in making everyone mad at you. Once you graduate you can find a college ensemble that actually cares about sound.
