The more I practice, the further I've had to pull the tuning slide on my euphonium to
play in tune.
Over the last five months I've changed the slide 3/4". The slide is now 1 3/4" out.
Tony Clement tried my horn and for him it played in tune when the slide was pulled
1"; i.e. where I originally had it. I've done a lot of low register practice along
with the Remington exercises and Tony C'c warm up book, and my emouchure has
strengthened as a result, but the change in intonation is unexpected. I use a fairly
large mouthpiece: SM3 or Bach 1 1/2G. It is possible that the point where my lips
vibrate has moved slightly into the mouthpiece compared to five months ago, but not
enough to account for a 1 1/2" change in the length of the horn.
