Josh, absolutely, you should go. The competitions are only a minor part of the entire experience. Throughout the days there will be masterclasses, recitals, clinics and lectures to choos from--so many choices that you won't be able to do everything. It's a chance to hang out with fellow musicians of the tuba-euph persuasion, make new friends, hear new literature, check out instrument exhibits, hear people play in ways you might never have imagined, etc, etc. Are you exhausted yet? You will be, but it will be such a wonderful experience. Did I leave anything out? Probably. . . Just go and have a great time.
