I think that all depends on what you are playing (musically) and also on the horn. I find that the PT-88 is a great mouthpice (for a Mirafone 186 tuba -most of the time), but there are also many other great mouthpieces. I also have found a high mass mouthpiece gives the horn a unique sound which is great for some musical situations. I used a high-mass mouthpiece and a PT-88 once in the same piece of music (changing mouthpieces for string bass cues).

Also, as Porgy sang, "A woman is a sometimes thing" I think that blending with trombones is a sometimes thing. Sometimes you might want to do so and sometimes may want a sound which is completely different. If the sound from your similar mouthpieces are that much different, keep them both! It is cool to be able to do a presto-chango with a mouthpiece (once in a while) and produce a dramatically different sound.

P.S. Isn't tuba "overkill" just a sign of a healthy aesthetic sense? lol
