I stand by my earlier assertion that a 6/4 BAT is still too big for most ensemble situations. Yes, Gene plays one in solo situations, but who among us plays like that? We mere mortals need to have the proper equipment for the proper job. I don't know the Sotto Voce guys personally, but amazing things can be done is a recording studio (I am NOT casting espersions, here) and the largest tuba can sound like a 184 or visa versa. In a chamber situation, I'd rather have a modest sized tuba and concentrate on making music, rather than concentrate on trying NOT to cover my colleagues. If you are a one-tuba guy, get a full sized (4/4) low pitch tuba, your second purchase should be a small tuba (like a 184) OR a high pitch tuba (Eb, F). THEN get a BAT for that big orchestra sound.
