Another option is the harp. Gil Corella played a Bach piece with harp accompaniment at a recital a while back, and I thought it sounded vastly better than a piano in that setting. It didn't have the aggressive attack of the piano, and wasn't such a stark contrast with the lyricism of the tuba.
