I'd like to add one point to the good comments made so far.
If I have a long rest I'll put the horn down, but when I bring it up I'll do so subtly. The goal is not to draw attention to yourself.
Similarly, when I've just finished playing a passage and a new section has begun in the strings (or whatever), I won't put the horn right away; wait until the audience has focused their attention and then, SLOWLY and subtly, put the horn down. As long as you're not being a visual distraction, you're fine.
