This is completely true. I have realized myself that the time that you put into practicing is what will truly advance yourself. Your lessons are just for directions. You can't forget that you are the one driving. I have usually had a good work ethic when it came to practicing, but it wasn't until recently that I have been given good direction. The first teacher that I took lessons from didn't really give me any direction, and my progress was slow. I then found a new teacher who really knew what he was talking about, Richard Murrow. He is a very talented teacher who knows all of the roads to drive. I then graduated high school and enrolled at UNT with another great teacher, Don Little, and his terrific teaching assistant, Roy Couch. They both know the route to becoming a good musician. But, all they can show me the route. I have to make the drive myself. I am quickly learning the way. A good teacher can make all of the difference, but don't forgot that it is still all about you.
